Issues with Hitron CODA-4582U Gateway and VoIP Services

Many cable internet providers, including Rogers, Shaw, and others, are deploying the Hitron CODA-4582U as a gateway/modem/router combo. While it serves general internet needs well, it presents challenges for VoIP and SIP-based services, impacting communication reliability.

Common Issues Reported:

  1. Loss of Registration: Phones may intermittently go offline and quickly re-register, disrupting service continuity.

  2. Dropped Calls: Calls may experience sudden disconnects or loss of voice during conversations.

  3. Missed Calls and Voicemail Issues: Phones may fail to ring for incoming calls or divert directly to voicemail without ringing.

  4. Voice Quality Problems: Users may encounter issues such as crackling sounds, echo, or interruptions during voice or video calls.

Even in Bridge Mode:

These issues persist even when the Hitron CODA-4582U is set to bridge mode alongside your own router. They are more prevalent in areas where network infrastructure upgrades have not occurred recently.

Resolution:

Currently, there is no known universal fix for these issues with the Hitron CODA-4582U. We recommend considering alternatives like requesting the Hitron CGN3 model or exploring other service providers known for better compatibility with VoIP systems.
