Yealink phones behind a D-Link DSR-250V2 VPN router may fail to register, so VoIP calls don't work. Updating the router firmware fixes this.
Many users find that installing the latest firmware directly fails. The fix is to install the intermediate firmware first, then the latest firmware.
Symptoms
- Yealink phones show as unregistered or can't register to the PBX
- You can't make or receive calls through the DSR-250V2
Before You Begin
- Check which hardware revision your router has. It's printed on the label on the bottom of the unit. The steps below are for Hardware Revision B.
- Back up the router configuration.
- Plan for a short outage. The router reboots after each upgrade.
- Do not power off or unplug the router during an upgrade.
Step 1: Download the Firmware
- Go to the D-Link support page: https://support.dlink.com/productinfo.aspx?m=DSR-250V2
- On the Downloads tab, pick your hardware revision (e.g. B) from the dropdown.

- Open the Firmware dropdown and download both of these files:
- The intermediate firmware, which is labeled "intermediate firmware" in the list
- The latest firmware, which is usually the top entry in the list

Note: At the time of writing, the intermediate firmware was 1.02.B011 and the latest firmware was 2.01B006 HOTFIX. D-Link may have released newer versions since then. Always use the newest intermediate and latest versions on the support page, and read the Release Notes for any changes to the upgrade path.
Step 2: Install the Intermediate Firmware
- Log in to the DSR-250V2 web interface.
- Open the firmware upgrade page, found under Tools > Firmware (menu names can differ slightly between versions).
- Upload the intermediate firmware file (e.g. 1.02.B011) and start the upgrade.
- Wait for the router to finish and reboot fully.
- Log back in and make sure the firmware version matches the intermediate version you installed.
Step 3: Install the Latest Firmware
- Go back to the firmware upgrade page.
- Upload the latest firmware file (e.g. 2.01B006 HOTFIX) and start the upgrade.
- Wait for the router to finish and reboot fully.
- Log back in and make sure the firmware version matches the latest version you installed.
Step 4: Verify Phone Registration
- Reboot the Yealink phones, or wait for them to re-register.
- Check that each phone shows as registered.
- Make a test call in each direction, inbound and outbound.
Notes
- Why the intermediate step? Going straight from older 1.x firmware to 2.x often fails. Installing the intermediate firmware first lets the upgrade to the latest version complete.
- If your router already runs the intermediate version or anything newer, skip Step 2.
- If the support page no longer lists an intermediate firmware, check the Release Notes for the latest firmware for the current upgrade instructions.
