Rogers and Shaw Hitron CODA-4582U Loss of registration and Dropped calls

Rogers, Shaw, and several other cable internet service providers are deploying a new gateway/modem/router combo, the Hitron CODA-4582U

The new gateway is known to cause the following issues when used with VoIP and SIP based providers.

  • Loss of registration: the phones randomly go offline and re-register shortly after
  • Dropped calls; loss of voice in the middle of a conversation
  • Phones not ringing or going straight to voicemail
  • Poor voice quality: crackling, echo, and interruptions in the voice or video calls

This happens even if the gateway is in bridge mode alongside your own router. The problems occur intermittently and are more prevalent in areas where the infrastructure has not been recently upgraded.

There is no known fix for this issue, and it is recommended to either request the Hitron CGN3 or migrate to a different service provider.

Vantact is constantly monitoring different firmware revisions of this router, if a fix is found, this post will reflect this information.
